Ted’s VW T6 Transporter: Smart, stylish & powered up

Custom Builds

Project Overview

Ted came to us with a clear vision for his VW T6 Transporter: a “U” shaped interior that could transform from a relaxing campervan into a semi-office while travelling. He also wanted a fully removable Bluetti power source – an innovative idea at the time, and one of the first setups of this kind we’d ever attempted.

Designed for work and play

This conversion needed to do more than look good – it had to perform. Ted’s van needed room to work, space to unwind, and a layout that made both a breeze. We began by designing a sweeping U-shaped seating area that could shift between lounging and laptop time, supported by added windows and an elevating roof to keep the interior bright and airy.

From insulation to furniture fabrication, the van was rebuilt from the ground up to suit someone who lives for that mixture of adventure and productivity. Every component was tailored to help Ted feel at home, whether he’s parked at a scenic viewpoint or preparing for a day’s work on the road.

Power that packs a punch

The biggest challenge wasn’t the layout, it was the power pack. Ted wanted his entire electrical system to run from a large Bluetti unit he could simply lift out and use elsewhere. This required a complete rethink of our usual installation process. We engineered a secure but accessible housing and made sure that all wiring could connect cleanly and detach quickly.

Key build highlights included:

  • Removable Bluetti system: Three easy-access cables for fast disconnect
  • Electrical installation designed around portability
  • Full interior build: Furniture, roof, windows, and insulation
  • U-shaped seating engineered for workspace flexibility
  • Distinctive finishes: Bold orange upholstery, bamboo waterfall worktop, and a soft wheat-toned carpet

Every element was chosen to work seamlessly with the portable power source without compromising comfort or character.

A conversion with true character

The final van was nothing short of distinctive. The colour palette, originally a bold leap, came together beautifully, creating a vibrant yet balanced interior. The bamboo worktop with its mitred waterfall edge set the tone, supported by rich dark cabinetry and uplifting pops of orange.

The result felt both tasteful and undeniably personal. Ted was thrilled when he collected the Transporter and couldn’t wait to road-test it at Glastonbury a few weeks later. For us, it became one of those memorable builds that proves how a brave design choice can lead to something genuinely special.
