Phil came to Custom Fit Campers after being let down by another converter, seeking a fully bespoke VW Crafter LWB conversion on short notice. He wanted a van designed for real-world adventures, with a flexible bed layout, a large heated wardrobe, luggage space, and a practical, comfortable interior suitable for long photography trips.

Tight ideas, tighter deadlines

Phil’s brief pushed us outside our usual layouts, requiring a van that struck a perfect balance between comfort and practicality. He wanted a low-level rock and roll bed with the option for two singles or a large double, a clear luggage area at the rear, and a heated wardrobe for wet gear.

As a scenic photographer, Phil needed a van that could withstand long hikes and unpredictable weather while remaining comfortable for travel and socialising. With a tight deadline, we had to plan carefully, prioritise tricky components, and maintain flexibility to make certain that the bespoke build met all his requirements.

Handcrafted practicality & comfort

Once we all agreed on the layout, our team focused on every detail to maximise usability and comfort. We fitted the low-level bed system, installed a large heated wardrobe, and incorporated two sets of seating so the van could carry five passengers comfortably.

We also seamlessly integrated tech, including a TV, aerial, and 5G router, along with our largest wind-out awning, which extended outdoor space for photography setups and camping. Materials, finishes, and lighting were carefully selected to create a warm, practical interior that balances functionality with comfort, making it a true home-from-home for Phil’s adventures.

A bespoke VW Crafter that just works

The finished van delivered exactly what Phil needed. Despite a darker interior, the space feels warm and inviting, with adjustable lighting to suit any mood. The layout successfully combines sleeping, luggage, and social areas, so the van is as practical as it is comfortable.

Phil was thrilled with the result and has returned for extras, highlighting how a fully bespoke approach can transform a standard VW Crafter into a camper van tailored to lifestyle, adventure, and real-world practicality.
